I was reading Milligan/Bachalo Shade The Changing Man off
the racks back in the day so I avoided this book like the plague because there
is no way that it could compete with my fond memories. To top things off I’m
decidedly older now and the new Shade is a decidedly younger character, this
could cause a problem. I finally caved in and decided to give it a shot. My hat’s
off to the creative team, this is a great book. Zarcone’s art is some of the
most charming art that I’ve experienced in a while. Solid story, but the
bullying aspect is a bit tired, as it is in every aspect of media seemingly
since the dawn of time. Ah, but let’s return to the new Shade, a continuation
of the aforementioned Milligan run, and a welcome one at that. Definitely going
to pick up the next volume.
