Aliens: Dead Orbit (2017)

Aliens: Dead Orbit (2017) Dark Horse James Stokoe James Stokoe has an uncanny ability to adapt his storytelling to various genres. To that point, this series starts off exactly how you want an Aliens story to start, a distress beacon. Overdone? Of course, but, undeniably part of the DNA of the Xenomorph franchise. The horror that becomes of the derelict ship’s crew once our team finds them predates a similar situation in Alien: Covenant. All good until…SIX MONTHS BETWEEN ISSUES 3 AND 4. I reread all the issues this week and I must say that I’m a little disappointed by the ending. All in all a great, claustrophobic, grimy tale reminiscent of the original movie. Grade: B

Long Lost #1-2

Long Lost #1-2 Scout Comics Matthew Erman Lisa Sterle Perfectly paced, creepy, and a persistent sense of impending doom; this is great comics! Sterle’s art is so charming and makes the horror all the more disturbing. One gets a magna feel from the artwork and layouts. I can’t wait for the entire story to unwind. Be sure to read this one, you’re going to hear a lot more from this team in the future. Man, that first issue was a perfect first issue. Big publishers take note. Grade: A

The New 52: Future's End

The New 52: Future's End #0-48 DC Comics I’ve never read a weekly event series before this. What can I say, it’s pretty fun. This one have Batman (Terry McGinnis) travelling back in time to prevent a horrific future where Brother Eye turns everything into monstrous mech organic zombies. He undershoots his goal by five years thus the events leading to the rise of Brother Eye are already in motion. By the nature of having the series be a weekly publication some storylines are non-essential, perhaps we can write them off as red herrings for the true reveal of how things meshed to give Brother Eye the autonomy and technology to become ruler of Earth. It’s fun, I doubt that it’s canon, and now that The New 52 is over I’m not too sure where Stormwatch, Grifter, and Voodoo fit in the universe. Imperfect, but a page turner. Grade: B
